I hear a lot of people refer to music sometimes as, “healing.”

Bon Iver is my medicine.

You’re laying waste to Halloween
You fucked it friend, it’s on its head, it struck the street
You’re in Milwaukee, off your feet
…and at once I knew I was not magnificent

The only thing that’s getting me to sleep at night these days.

“Beth/Rest (Solo Piano Version)” by Bon Iver // Live In-Studio @ World Cafe NPR (2011)

For those that hated the closing track on Bon Iver’s latest album (i know there are plenty of you out there), here is a solo piano version of the track recorded in studio at World Cafe for NPR. It’s more akin to his cover of Bonnie Raitt’s “I Can’t Make You Love Me” than the Bruce Hornsby inspired sounds of the album version. I can’t imagine there’ll be anyone dissatisfied with this take (though i loved the original all the same), unless you have an issue with hearing Justin Vernon pull a mean Tom Waits imitation in the opening lines.

This is cool, but I still love the original more.

Well here is the collaboration that we’ve all been waiting for despite not really knowing about it till recently. It’s a pretty stunning track that brings what both artists are so good at to the table and mixes them perfectly. Just press play. No amount of my words can describe this smooth goodness.
